This year on my birthday July 10th 2024, I decided to do something exciting and challenging. I called up my  friend and she was down for an adventure ( ofkos she is always down for  my crazy adventures). We didn’t do much  planning all we knew was that we  wanted to seek an adventure.

The weekend finally arrived and we were ready to do the hike. We had decided to hike Mt. Longonot  located in  Lake  Naivasha with a height of 2776M. This would be my first hike and I was looking forward to it.  We met up with my friend and we were ready to start hiking.

At the start of the hike we were all pumped up and ready to get to the top. I thought it was something easy peasy, but to my surprise  it would get difficult . The first part of the hike was great and I was energetic all through I would encourage my friend to keep going. We finally got to the top and  were so excited at least we stuck with it and hadn’t given up.

But to our surprise this was not the top most part of the mountain there was some distance  be covered still if we wanted to fully cover the 2776M. Most people got to this part and we okay to go back. One thing about my friend and I we don’t settle, we encouraged each other to keep going since curiosity got the better of us and eager to see what lay at the true summit.

The journey to the top continued. The more we got closer to the top the further it moved away  and the incline  become steeper. We would see people who were further ahead of us and we would wonder whether we would reach to their point but their was  no pressure.

During the whole period of getting to the top most part of mountain we decided to just focus on moving forward one step at time and not at the speed we were going as long as we were moving forward we knew we would get to the top. We reminded ourselves of this quote” slow and steady wins the race”.

To our surprise, we had reached the top of the mountain and it was breath taking. The air was cold and crisp but refreshing and relaxing at the same time. The moment I got to the top I knew something had shifted inside me and was ready to take new challenges. Few people were at the top and that tells a lot about the whole experience and life.

It was the best moment of my life doing something and sticking with it to the end. Getting back down that’s a whole other story that will share soon and the lessons learned, and mistakes made so stay tuned.
