A we our own enemies.. I take a trip to my birth place am excited to go back to see the beautiful land I left behind. It was so cold in most seasons and it was one of the place that provided food for our neighbouring centres. As I take this trip it gives me most of my childhood memories .
It was a forty five minutes drive, the only problem is the road which is so rough, since I was young it has not been built. The kukuru kakara the sound that my car is producing due to the poor road is ear deafening. I bear with the circumstance because not much I can do about it.
As I am approaching to my home town am shocked by the hot scorching sun outside and at a moment I tend to think am I in the wrong place. But the buildings and the people I see are familiar and they a sure me am in the right place. As I continued driving through town towards my home place I was shocked to see the big forest I left behind was no more. A big part of it was consumed by fire and the rest deforestation had taken place . The beauty of our land was no more. No wonder the seasons had changed so much. At this time of the year it would be raining so heavy and people could have planted crops.
My heart felt heavy I could not believe the place that looked so beautiful was now turning to a desert. It made me remember sometime back I had gone to safari walk in Nairobi and at the entrance was a box and it was written “open to see the enemy of diversity ” I was quick to open and what I saw got me thinking twice.. And I believe probably by now you know what I saw in that box. Since then it made me realize we are our own enemies.
I wish we could realize the kind of damage we are doing to our environment and abide by the rule when you cut one tree down plant another. Just may be we might save our planet earth. How I wish it would be each of us responsibility to plant trees and save our beautiful planet earth.
